President Barack Obama is scheduled to meet with Federal Reserve
Chairwoman Janet Yellen on Monday to discuss the long-term outlook
for the American economy and the global recovery, a White House
official said.
The meeting comes amid signs of stronger economic growth at home
and weakness abroad. Aside from an Oct. 6 gathering of financial
regulators, this would be the president's first meeting with Ms.
Yellen since she was confirmed.
The White House in recent days has highlighted the relative
strength of the U.S. economy, as Fed has decided to end one key
component of its easy money policies. But the recovery has been
weak by historical standards.
"The President met a number of times with Chairman (Ben)
Bernanke, Chair Yellen's predecessor, and this meeting is a
continuation of that important dialogue on the state of the
economy, financial reform, and other economic issues," the White
House official said.
