Canada's low-fare leader increases
transcontinental capacity
CALGARY,
Feb. 19, 2015 /CNW/ - WestJet
today announced even more non-stop flights between Vancouver and Toronto as Canadians prepare for the busy
summer travel season.
WestJet, Canada's most-preferred airline, will add
nearly two dozen more flights between May 3
and October 24, increasing overall capacity between
Vancouver and Toronto by more than 10 per cent. The schedule
features up to 10 daily flights in the spring, 11 during the peak
travel months of July and August, and nine in the fall.
"This is the time of year when many Canadians sit
down to make their summer travel plans," said Chris Avery, WestJet's Vice-President, Network
Planning, Alliances and Corporate Development. "WestJet's extensive
domestic, transborder and international network of more than 90
cities in 20 countries opens up a world of possibilities. Whether
visiting family and friends or taking a much-needed summer holiday,
Canadians know they can depend on WestJet's trusted brand, low
fares and remarkable guest experience."
WestJet also offers up to 12 daily non-stop
flights between Calgary and
Toronto, nine from Edmonton to Toronto and six from Winnipeg to Toronto. From Toronto, guests connecting eastward have 10
cities in Quebec and Atlantic Canada to choose from, as well as
eight destinations in the U.S. and 21 throughout Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America.
WestJet's growing network now includes
Europe and the U.K. Beginning
May 29, 2015, WestJet will offer
seasonal daily flights between Toronto and Glasgow,
Scotland, with a brief stop in Halifax. This follows the airline's hugely
successful launch of its first transatlantic service between
Toronto and Dublin, Ireland, via St. John's, last summer. Seasonal daily
flights to Dublin resume on
May 1, 2015.
"The confidence and trust Canadians have in
WestJet allows us to continue to grow and offer more destinations,"
said Chris Avery. "As we approach
our 19th birthday at the end of this month, we are
enormously grateful for their support and loyalty."
