US number of initial jobless claims unexpectedly dropped in the week ended 26 December 2020

In the US, seasonally adjusted number of initial jobless claims recorded an unexpected drop to a level of 787.00 K in the week ended 26 December 2020, compared to a revised reading of 806.00 K in the previous week. Markets were expecting initial jobless claims to record a rise to a level of 833.00 K.

Japanese manufacturing PMI rose in December

In Japan, the final manufacturing PMI rose to a level of 50.00 in December, compared to a level of 49.00 in the previous month. Markets were anticipating manufacturing PMI to climb to a level of 49.70.
