High-Priced Delay Campaign by Oil & Manufacturing Lobbyists
Fails, Calif. Business Leaders Say "Let's Get Going" on AB 32
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.,
Oct. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/
-- Today, a letter signed by dozens of California's top business leaders,
representing tens of thousands of workers, calls on the state to
"get going" to implement its pioneering clean energy law, AB 32.
Despite the oil and manufacturing lobby's failed delay campaign
that includes expensive full-page newspaper and Internet ads, radio
spots and direct lobbying, California businesses still strongly endorse
the state's transition to a more efficient clean energy
economy.
The letter addressed to state leaders explains, "AB 32 has been
the law of the land for six years. There have been dozens of public
hearings and workshops, and tens of thousands of public comments
submitted. Uncertainty is bad for business. Stop the debate and
start the program."
Business leaders from California's broad and diverse economy,
including mainstream and clean energy businesses and associations,
signed the letter.
"Oil interests tried to take down AB 32 before it was signed
into law. They failed. Then, in 2010, they funded a multi-million
dollar ballot initiative to derail the law. The voters spoke and
the opposition failed again. Now, they are taking out full-page
newspaper ads, placing online ads and radio spots trying to
convince Californians that inefficiency and oil dependence are good
for our economy. We're here to say that they've failed again," said
Susan Frank, Director of the
California Business Alliance for a Green Economy.
