Category 5 Hurricane Irma caused expected
damage to resorts in St. Maarten; Florida resorts received minimal
damage
Diamond Resorts International®, a global leader in the
hospitality and vacation ownership industries, has begun assessing
the full impact Hurricane Irma had on the company’s two resorts in
St. Maarten and across its Florida resorts. Though professional
damage assessments have yet to be completed, all members, owners
and guests were immediately accounted for after the storm in both
areas, and the company continues to reach out to all affected team
members and their families.
Hurricane Irma made direct landfall in St. Maarten on Wednesday,
September 6, 2017, as a powerful Category 5 hurricane, causing
widespread damage to the island. Both of Diamond Resorts’
properties in St. Maarten, the Royal Palm Beach and Flamingo Beach
resorts, suffered damage to be expected of such a strong storm. A
full professional assessment will be completed once the island’s
airport resumes operations. As a precaution, Diamond Resorts has
canceled all reservations at the resorts through November.
Since the storm, Diamond Resorts team members have been working
closely with the military and government authorities to ensure all
guests are safely evacuated off the island. The safety of all
guests has remained a top priority, along with following all
government mandated curfews and orders.
Diamond Resorts expertly prepared for the storm well in advance
at both locations. In Florida, initial assessments revealed that
most of the Orlando-area resorts suffered minor damage. The
Crescent Resort on South Beach and the Charter Club Resort of
Naples Bay suffered minimal damage, and although there was some
water intrusion and wind damage to Daytona Beach Regency and The
Cove on Ormond Beach, the full extent is not yet known.
Professional assessments are expected to be completed in the coming
days.
Diamond Resorts continues to reach out to all of its affected
team members and is working to fully understand the impact Irma had
on its properties. For more information about Diamond Resorts,
