New Device and Modules to Feature Higher Performance and Full HDMI Premium Active Cable Compliance

CEDIA Expo – Spectra7 Microsystems Inc. (TSX:SEV) (“Spectra7” or the “Company”), a leading provider of high-performance analog semiconductor products for broadband connectivity markets, today announced new second generation products to support the HDMI 2.0 cable market. The HT8182 is an HDMI 2.0 Active Linear Cable Equalizer featuring higher performance and designed to support full HDMI Premium Active Cable Compliance. The chip will also be available in module form with several versions supporting various cable gauges.

The HDMI 2.0 market continues to grow at a rapid rate. According to industry analyst Reportlinker1 in their latest 4K Ultra-high Definition (UHD) Technologies report, the global market for 4K ultra-high definition technologies reached nearly $52.3 billion in 2017 and should reach $132.9 billion by 2022, at a compound annual growth rate of 20.5% for the period of 2017-2022.

Spectra7's HT8182, a follow-on to its market leading HT8181, is a cable embedded chip capable of reducing cable diameter, weight, and gauge while delivering the high resolution, high frame rate and high dynamic range video called for in the latest HDMI 2.0 specification. The new HT8182 complements the current HT8181 with higher performance driven by higher bandwidth, better wide-band equalization response, improved noise rejection and better return loss characteristics. These improvements result in more robust interop across the HDMI ecosystem and enable cable manufacturers to achieve full HDMI Premium Active Cable compliance.

“Cables using our patented active cable technology offer significant value to the HDMI community,” said Spectra7 CEO Raouf Halim. “We are introducing these new parts to continue to grow our strong position in this market."

Spectra7 is a leader in active copper cable (ACC) technology with a strong patent portfolio covering core technology necessary for delivering active cables.

About Spectra7’s HT8182 Semiconductor Device

The HT8182 is a 4-channel linear equalizer with up to 14dB of boost, which when combined with the 12dB of equalization provided by the sink receiver, allows cables with up to 26dB of loss at 3GHz. The part is packaged in an ultra-small CSP package and is pin compatible with the market-leading HT8181, easing upgrade to the new part.

The HT8182 silicon and modules will be available in Q1 2019.
