  Response to The Carlyle Group Statement

The Board of Metro Bank PLC ("Metro Bank") notes the announcement made earlier today by funds affiliated with The Carlyle Group ("Carlyle") in relation to the termination of discussions regarding a possible offer for Metro Bank. As a result of this announcement, Carlyle will, except with the consent of the UK Panel on Takeovers and Mergers, be bound by the restrictions contained in Rule 2.8 of the City Code on Takeovers and Mergers.

The Board continues to strongly believe in the standalone strategy and future prospects of Metro Bank.
