Amazon.com Inc. has named longtime executive Doug Herrington as its new chief executive of its Worldwide Amazon Stores business, formerly known as Consumer.

Mr. Herrington, who joined Amazon in 2005 to build out its consumables business, launched AmazonFresh in 2007 and took on leading Amazon's North American consumer business in 2015, Chief Executive Andy Jassy said in a statement.

Mr. Herrington succeeds Dave Clark, who resigned earlier this month from Amazon, and later said he would join transportation and logistics startup Flexport as its new CEO Sept. 1.

Mr. Jassy also said Amazon is uniting its operations group under another longtime executive, John Felton.
