Extended Systems' OneBridge Mobile Groupware 5.0 Optimizes Wireless Email Experience; Increases Battery Life, Adds Nokia Series

Business Wire
Extended Systems (NASDAQ: XTND), a leading provider of mobile
software solutions, today announced the release of OneBridge Mobile
Groupware Version 5.0, a highly scalable wireless email solution
that brings commercial-grade capabilities to organizations
deploying email to the field. Version 5.0 supports more than 100
mobile devices, simplifies the end-user experience, and supplies IT
with tools to monitor the deployment from any location. From an
end-user vantage point, Version 5.0 is both efficient and
well-designed. The software's power requirements have been
minimized to the point that most devices can remain in
always-connected mode for many days before requiring a re-charge.
Version 5.0 also utilizes the native email application already
residing on the device, resulting in decreased footprint
requirements and freeing up space on the device for other
applications. In addition, this release includes a connectivity
intelligence feature that automatically configures the user's
network settings and verifies the connection during install.
Finally, Nokia Series 60 support and Windows Mobile 5.0 support
have been added. In tandem with the product's end-user interface
features, IT administrators will appreciate Version 5.0's backend
capabilities. The OneBridge Monitoring Service is a unique wireless
email monitoring tool. A web-based console provides multi-user
access to the OneBridge Monitor showing detailed statistics on the
overall health of every OneBridge component in the enterprise. If
the OneBridge Monitor detects an issue, it can take corrective,
self-healing actions automatically and/or notify personnel of the
identified issue. This capability optimizes server up-time.
Additionally, IT can perform tasks such as remotely stopping and
re-starting any OneBridge component. OneBridge Monitor also
provides performance statistics which illustrate information such
as average synchronization times and current users. "Mobile
deployments have multiple components and therefore multiple
potential points of failure," said Stephen Drake, program director
of IDC's mobile software service. "Monitoring and self-healing
capabilities such as those found in OneBridge can help IT identify
issues and minimize downtime. This capability will become
increasingly important as organizations roll out larger and larger
deployments." Version 5.0 is a highly scalable product as well. Lab
testing simulating real-world scenarios indicates that server
scalability can reach upwards of 1,000 users on a single server and
tens of thousands of users in a multi-server environment. The
product is primarily targeted towards medium and large-scale
deployments and is a result of field trials and feedback from
numerous Global 2000 customers. "What we have done here is
significantly raise the bar on how IT can manage and scale wireless
email solutions throughout their organization," explained Jeff
Warner, vice president of marketing at Extended Systems. "We've
spent significant time with our global 2000 customer base to
understand their biggest challenges in deploying and managing a
wireless email solution for a multitude of device types. OneBridge
5.0 is the culmination of implementing direct feedback from our
customers." Pricing and Availability OneBridge Mobile Groupware 5.0
