SMBC Aviation Capital said Tuesday that it has placed a
follow-on order for 14 additional Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, adding
to a flurry of orders for the jets since its ungrounding.
The Dublin-based lessor is in talks with various customers about
leasing the aircraft which are due to be delivered toward the end
of this year and into 2022, SMBC Chief Executive Peter Barrett
said.
Demand for "good, young narrowbody airplanes is picking up," Mr.
Barrett said in an interview.
"There are signs of increasing confidence in the short haul
market," he said, adding that both airline and consumer confidence
in the MAX jet has started to recover since its return to
flying.
