Dow Jones News
-Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) and Colgate-Palmolive Co. (CL) must
pay almost $10 million to a California woman who blamed the
companies' talc-based products for her cancer, Bloomberg
reports.
-A state-court jury decided Wednesday the companies' body
powders were a cause of the woman's mesothelioma, a cancer
specifically linked to asbestos exposure, the report said.
-Jurors determined J&J and Colgate were each 40% responsible
for her illness -- amounting to about $4.8 million in damages
against each company, the report said.
-The case is Johnson's second trial loss in two weeks in cases
regarding the health risks of its talcum powder, the report
said.
Shares of Johnson & Johnson were up 1.2% Wednesday in
afternoon trading and Colgate's stock was off 0.3%.
