Vuzix Corp. said Monday it agreed to provide Verizon Communications Inc. with smart glasses for augmented reality experiences involving sports and gambling.

Vuzix shares were up 5.9% at $9.81 shortly after the announcement, after trading as low as $8.94 earlier in the day, and Verizon shares were down 0.3% at $52.51.

The smart glasses will use Verizon's 5G and edge computing technologies to provide immersive augmented reality training experiences, while delivering improved response time, longer battery life and increased computing capacity, Vuzix said.
