Perpetua Resources Corp. said it expects the U.S. Forest Service's draft decision on the Stibnite Gold Project by the end of this year, a project that has implications for the Defense Department's ammunition shortage.

The Forest Service updated the National Environmental Policy Act permitting schedule for the project, with a final environmental impact statement and draft record of decision expected by year-end and a final record of decision expected in early 2024, the Boise, Idaho mining company said Friday.

Perpetua said its work toward a final decision is supported with funding received through the Department of Defense to develop a domestic source of antimony trisulfide for the production of small arms, medium caliber cartridges and other missile and munition items.

Antimony from the Stibnite Gold Project is the sole domestic geologic reserve of antimony that can meet Defense Department's requirements, the company said.
