Accountancy firm Deloitte LLP has acquired law firm Kemp Little LLP, marking a continuing trend of the Big Four's expansion into the legal sector.

The firm said Tuesday that Deloitte Legal will add 29 partners and up to 57 lawyers as a result of the deal.

London law firm Kemp Little advises clients on commercial technology, corporate, employment, data protection, disputes, IP and financial regulation across sectors such as financial services, telecoms, and media and digital solutions.

Following the completion of the deal, Deloitte Legal's lawyer headcount in the U.K. will increase to more than 170, up from approximately 85 currently, the firm said.

Richard Houston, senior partner and chief executive of Deloitte North and South Europe, said: "This transaction marks a key moment in the growth of Deloitte Legal. This demonstrates our confidence and willingness to invest where there is clear market demand."

Michael Castle, managing partner for Deloitte Legal in the U.K., added: "Today's announcement is a milestone in the evolution of the delivery of legal solutions."

Each of the Big Four firms of Ernst & Young Global Ltd., PwC, KPMG International and Deloitte have established legal businesses in the U.K. in recent years.

Last year EY announced the acquisition of a 1,000-strong managed legal services business from Thomson Reuters Corp. and the acquisition of alternative legal provider Riverside Law as part of its expansion in the sector.
