TOKYO--Japan Airlines Co. (9201.TO) said Wednesday it has
entered negotiations to seek compensation from Boeing Co. (BA) over
losses stemming from the suspension of its 787 Dreamliner
operations, Kyodo News reported.
At a shareholders meeting in Tokyo, the Japanese carrier also
said the company has lost a net Y3.9 billion since Jan. 16, when
its entire 787 fleet was grounded due to a series of
battery-related problems. The sum breaks down into Y6.5 billion in
revenue decline and Y2.6 billion in maintenance cost saving, JAL
said.
JAL and All Nippon Airways Co., the world's two largest
procurers of the 787, resumed regular services with the advanced
aircraft on June 1.
JAL President Yoshiharu Ueki reiterated that the safety of the
aircraft has been ensured.
It was the first shareholders' meeting held since the company
was relisted on the Tokyo Stock Exchange last September after its
2010 bankruptcy.
