Barclays PLC (BCS, BARC.LN) is near an agreement to sell its Italian bank branches to Mediobanca's (MB.MI) CheBanca unit, Reuters reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.

A deal could be announced as soon as Thursday, Reuters reported.
