BT Group PLC said Thursday that it has reached an agreement with its largest union, the Communication Workers Union, on the company's modernization plan over the coming years.

The U.K. telecommunications company said it has committed to consider steps to avoid compulsory redundancy and to seek volunteers where it needs to reduce roles.

The agreement with the CWU also covers pay and proposed site closures, the company said. BT said it has committed to implement a pay increase in the U.K. that will be awarded next year and to close only buildings where it anticipates staff can relocate to an alternative location over the next year.
