Glencore PLC said Friday that it has appointed Gill Marcus as senior independent director, replacing Martin Gilbert "in the interests of greater diversity and inclusiveness."

The FTSE 100-listed commodity mining and trading company said that Mr. Gilbert will remain as an independent nonexecutive director.

The board now comprises five men and four women.

"We are delighted that Gill has accepted the appointment as senior independent director. Her extensive experience in governance and leadership makes her a natural fit for this role," Chairman Kalidas Madhavpeddi said.
