overseas trading, only one market is making its way higher this
morning. The international stock markets are offering little in the
way of direction thanks to the European and British exchanges
remaining closed for the holiday. In Japan, the Nikkei has inched
forward by 0.3 percent. The June futures contract on gold gained
0.30 an ounce Thursday, slightly off its session low of $427.00.
The malleable metal found itself falling on the FOMC's decision to
hike rates a quarter-point while indicating a continuation of its
current policy. The Fed's decision was seen as a positive for the
dollar, and in turn, hurt gold's hedging status as the two normally
trade inversely with each other. In early trading, gold spot prices
are edging lower. Be prepared for the investing week ahead with

DYNAMIC MARKET OPPORTUNITIES According to USA Today, "spyware" is
putting the future of e-commerce at risk. The situation has now
escalated to the point where the National Cyber Security Alliance
reports that nearly 90% of all computers could be infected with
spyware. A recent survey also showed that 31% of online shoppers
said they were buying less online because of security issues,
thanks to viruses and malicious e-thieves. And a new report from
the world's largest manufacturer of anti-virus computer software,
Symantec, says malicious attacks on corporate Windows computer
networks and servers surged 332% in the second half of 2004 alone,
compared with the same period in 2003. Moreover, a separate survey
of 229 firms by Mazu Networks found that almost half had suffered
some form of network interference, due to viruses or worms, with
40% reporting critical attacks, and 38% saying they lost data. And
as senior vice-president of security firm Endforce Dennis Brouwer
states, quoted in USA Today: "Firewalls alone simply can't cope
with today's wildly diverse group of users and access methods."
Cyber-thieves are simply finding more unique ways to break into
companies' security systems. This includes applications like
webpages that create, share and modify data - often susceptible to
attacks through technical deficiencies that creative hackers can
break through. Hackers increased their attacks via this method by
81.5% during the second half of 2004, versus the second half of
2003, according to Symantec. Even Symantec president and CEO John
Schwartz doubts that legislation will prove effective, stating:
"Any legislation ... is bound to fail." Fortunately, little-known
company Blue Coat Systems has developed patent-pending technology
so powerful that it could wipe spyware from the Internet
permanently because it blocks spyware before it gets on to
computers. Over 3,500 organizations - including 70% of the Dow
Jones Industrial companies - have already used Blue Coat's
services. And new research from IDC estimates that the market for
anti-spyware equipment will hit US$305 million by 2008 - a 2,500%
increase from 2003. Read more analysis from the 247Profits Group
