LOS ANGELES, May 26, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On
May 25th, 5,000 leaders and youth are
gathered at the docks of Santa Monica Pier to make a demand for
peace legislation for the community and the world.
The peace walk is in honor of the "6th Annual Commemoration of
the Declaration of World Peace and the Peace Walk" held in 126
cities in 77 countries around the world including Los Angeles, Washington D.C., San
Francisco in the United States of
America, Guatemala,
El Salvador, Mexico, Argentina, Canada, Germany, and the
Philippines. It commemorates the day when this declaration
was proclaimed on May 25, 2013 in
South Korea. Under the theme of
"The World's Call for Peace, Urging Support for the Declaration of
Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW)", the event was hosted by
Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), an
international peace NGO affiliated with the UN ECOSOC and the UN
DGC.
This peace walk has been carried out simultaneously in various
places all over the world in May every year with the aim of
promoting the role and participation of individuals in the
international community to achieve peace and spreading a culture of
peace.
"We've reached a point where we have to realize the old ways
weren't working, and we need something different to fix the problem
with violence in the world" said Karla
Pasham, an educator in Los
Angeles who participated in the peace walk. "If weapon
technology and ways to hurt each other keeps advancing, then we
need to advance our solutions for peace."
The Chairman of HWPL, Mr. Man Hee
Lee announced the significance of the DPCW by saying "The
DPCW advocates everyone to cooperate for building peace so that
there will be no more productions of weapons that kill lives and no
more invasions of other countries. As the national leaders support
the 10 articles and 38 clauses of the DPCW and religions harmonize
for peace, the global community can take the road to peace."
Citizens have taken the biggest role in this grassroots peace
law campaign. To date, over 1.3 million citizens have participated
in the "Peace Letter Campaign" sending letters supporting the DPCW
to their respective President or Prime Minister in 192 countries
with expectations for responses from heads of each state.
Mr. Y.M. Chung, the General Director of the International Peace
Youth Group (IPYG), the organization that leads the campaign said
"It has been only three years since the DPCW was proclaimed, but we
have gathered a lot of support at the national level as well as the
support from the citizens all across the globe."
