She is the former President of United Way in Northeast Georgia. Under her leadership, it grew to support 28 agencies in 9 counties and raised and allocated over $50 million to various non-profit organizations. Ms. Norris volunteered with United Way of Northeast Georgia for 9 years before joining the staff. Her key responsibilities prior to her retirement in April of 2016 included fundraising, event planning, community and board development, volunteer management, strategic marketing, executive team building and business administration, public speaking, contractual negotiations, and public relations.

Ms. Norris' leadership skills, professional accomplishments, contributions to the community, longevity in the field, and commitment to the profession have earned her worldwide recognition. Her most recent awards include the "Woman of the Year" distinction for 2016-2017 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP), the "Outstanding Professional of the Year" selection by the International Society of Business Leaders (ISOBL), the Athena Award from the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, and the "Virtuous Woman Award" from the In Touch Management Group Youth Academy.

In celebration of her 30 years of service to the organization, the Georgia United Way Professional Association presented Ms. Norris with a watercolor painting of St. Simons Lighthouse and United Way International recognized her at a Leaders Conference. She also received a Proclamation from Athens Mayor Nancy Denson to declare March 23, 2016, as Rubielen Norris Day and was given a Key to the City. The Classic Center in Athens presented Ms. Norris with an Athena Statue for her contributions and dedication to helping those in need and saving lives.

Looking toward the future, Ms. Norris will continue her consulting work, helping the community, and continuing to make a difference in people's lives, as she has always done. She remains an active member of the National Women's Leadership Association, the United Way State Professional Association, the Athens Rotary Club, and the Georgia Arabian Horse Association.

In her free time, Ms. Norris enjoys traveling, whitewater rafting, and reading. After retiring last year, Rubielen has started her own business, designing and making jewelry. Rubielen Designs is keeping her busy and happy.  She is also an active volunteer at Athens Church.
