SINGAPORE--Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (Z74.SG) said Thursday it will start sales of iPhone 5, the latest model of the popular smartphone manufactured by Apple Inc. (AAPL), from Sept. 21.

SingTel didn't give details on the price of the phone, launched by Apple on Wednesday. The new phone has a bigger screen and slimmer body that analysts quickly branded a sure hit for the culture-changing tech giant.

Apple called the iPhone 5 "the thinnest smartphone in the world," with an anodized aluminum body that is 18% thinner and 20% lighter than iPhone 4S, its current model.
