QR National Ltd. (QRN.AU) will re-open parts of the Blackwater coal rail system in Queensland state later on Wednesday after operations were hampered by floods.

The first loaded coal trains will begin heading to the port of Gladstone soon after 0700 GMT, Chief Executive Lance Hockridge said in a statement.

The track is expected to be available to mines on the northern branch of the Blackwater system from Monday and repairs to the track further inland are expected to be completed by Tuesday, QR National said.

A re-opening date for the remaining link on the network, a spur to Xstrata PLC's (XTA.LN) Rolleston mine, is yet to be confirmed.

QR National's three other coal networks are already open.

"We're pleased to have re-started most operations across Queensland for our customers and look forward to ramping up services and system capacity over coming weeks," Hockridge said.

The company said last week that the specific impact on tonnages and network recovery costs on its full-year earnings "remains under assessment".
