Virgin Blue Says No Major Engine Damage After Los Angeles Incident
April 15 2011 - 2:16AM
Dow Jones News
Virgin Blue Ltd. (VBA.AU) said Friday it detected no major
damage to a General Electric GE90 engine that experienced a
performance issue in Los Angeles that forced a Boeing 777 flight to
Sydney to be aborted.
A spokesman for Australia's second-biggest carrier's
international unit, V Australia, said the April 13 flight was
aborted about 20 to 30 seconds into its take-off run as a
precautionary measure after the pilot identified a performance
issue with the left engine.
Local media have reported that passengers heard a loud bang
during the take-off run.
"A detailed inspection of one of the engines is ongoing;
however, no major damage has been found to date," V Australia said
in an e-mailed statement.
