PR Newswire (US)
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Twin City Youth Soccer
Association (TCYSA) has awarded the naming rights of its new soccer
complex to BB&T Corporation. Under terms of the agreement, the
soccer park will carry the BB&T name through 2016. Financial
terms were not disclosed. The state-of-the-art, 11-field complex
will be officially designated "BB&T Soccer Park" in a brief
ceremony during a members-and-families-only gathering at the TCYSA
complex on Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The 60-acre athletic
facility, which has been in use since the summer of 2006, is
located near Exit 182 of I-40 on the Davie-Forsyth county border.
In addition to the official announcement of the naming sponsorship
and the unveiling of the BB&T Soccer Park signage, TCYSA
officials also plan to break ground for the complex field house.
The modern structure will include office space, restrooms, dressing
rooms, meeting rooms/multi-purpose rooms, concessions, a lounge,
storage and room for future growth. Future plans include locker
rooms and showers. Weather permitting, the BB&T hot air balloon
will be at the event and will be visible around the Winston-Salem
area during the day. "We believe BB&T Soccer Park is well on
the way to becoming one of the premiere athletic facilities of its
kind in the southeast United States," said Pete Polonsky, president
of TCYSA. "Our affiliation with one of the finest financial
institutions in the region certainly enhances that luster." Cantey
Alexander, president of BB&T's Triad Region said that, "a key
component of BB&T's mission is to make the communities in which
it does business better places to live and work. "Over the next 10
years and beyond, tens of thousands of young people will compete on
the fields of this outstanding sports complex. BB&T is
privileged to have played a small role in making that happen. "We
congratulate the Twin City Youth Soccer Association for its long-
standing commitment to excellence that has given TCYSA its great
reputation within our community and throughout North Carolina.
BB&T has been privileged to have the Association as a client -
and now a partner." Acquiring the naming rights for BB&T Soccer
Park is another significant step for the company in its growing and
more-focused sports marketing program. BB&T is also involved in
NASCAR, college and high school sports, minor league baseball
events and the NFL. "Activities at BB&T Soccer Park will
certainly have a positive impact on the region's economy," said
Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines. "Out-of-town players
participating in weekend tournaments as well as collegiate events,
including the Atlantic Coast Conference, are expected to contribute
tens of thousands of dollars to the economy in the form of food,
lodging and gasoline expenditures." As evidence of the complex's
economic clout, last weekend more than 2,300 players and their
parents representing 147 teams from throughout the Southeast
participated in a tournament at BB&T Park, resulting in
hundreds of hotel rooms being occupied and thousands of meals being
sold. The TCYSA vision is: to help its more than 1,400 players
achieve success in soccer through building strong, active kids; to
teach life skills, such as discipline and teamwork, confidence and
resolve, and collaboration and focus; to bridge social barriers by
integrating diversity; and to make a positive impact on the local
economy by bringing youth soccer enthusiasts from throughout the
Southeast to tournaments hosted at BB&T Soccer Park. With
$127.6 billion in assets, BB&T operates more than 1,500
financial centers in 11 states and Washington, D.C. BB&T
Corporation is the nation's 11th largest financial holding company.
