MILWAUKEE, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Milwaukee-based
Midwest Airlines said Thursday its flights operated normally under
a revised series of security measures issued by the Transportation
Security Administration. The measures went into effect after the
Department of Homeland Security raised the threat level to Orange
for all commercial aviation in the United States. Under the new
measures, no liquids or gels are permitted in carry-on baggage;
exceptions are made for baby formula and medicines. Liquids and
gels must now be in checked baggage. To assist passengers, Midwest
has temporarily increased its free checked baggage allowance to
three bags per person. Carry-on baggage continues to be allowed on
all Midwest aircraft. According to Scott Dickson, Midwest Airlines
senior vice president and chief marketing officer, the increased
security screening did result in some flight delays Thursday. Most
delays, however, were less than 30 minutes in length. Additionally,
some delays were caused by weather systems in other parts of the
country. Dickson said the airline expects new screening procedures
will run more smoothly on Friday and cause fewer delays. To further
assist passengers, Midwest Airlines suggests the following travel
guidelines: -- Allow extra time for check-in and security. Arrive
at the airport 2-3 hours prior to departure. -- To facilitate
security screening, passengers are encouraged to pack lightly,
without clutter. -- Cooperate with TSA personnel at all checkpoints
and gates; security officers may be inspecting carry-on baggage at
the gate. -- Report any suspicious activity to airline or law
enforcement personnel. -- For additional information, go the TSA's
Web site at http://tsa.gov/ . Midwest Airlines features jet service
throughout the United States. Skyway Airlines, Inc. -- its wholly
owned subsidiary -- operates as Midwest Connect, which offers
connections to Midwest Airlines as well as point-to- point service
between select markets on regional jet and turboprop aircraft.
Together, the airlines offer service to 47 cities. More information
