rather grim this morning, with only three of the 15 markets that we
follow in positive territory. The cumulative average return on the
group stands at a 0.503-percent loss. In Asia, the Nikkei managed
to log a gain of 0.37 percent while the Hang Seng shed 0.12
percent. Trading is looking much darker in Europe at the moment.
The German DAX is leading the decline, with a loss of 1.45 percent.
The French CAC 40 is down 1.15 percent and the London FTSE 100 has
tumbled 0.60 percent lower. The economic calendar is rather light
this morning, with only weekly crude oil supplies due out at 10:30
a.m. Eastern time from the Energy Department and American Petroleum
Institute. Get Free Stock Picks from Bernie Schaeffer, 3 time

MARKET OPPORTUNITIES Many investors are probably more than just a
little skeptical when they hear economists and commentators
proclaim that Japan's economy is on its way back to recovery. That
refrain has been heard many times over the past few years - and has
each time proved to be nothing more than a false dawn. But if the
stock market is any judge, investors are at least feeling much more
comfortable with the speed and quality of Japan's recovery. The
Nikkei 225 exchange shot to a new four-year high of 13,148.57 on
Tuesday, as investors continued to feed off the convincing election
victory for Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi a few weeks ago, as
well as renewed confidence in the economy's future prospects. The
14.5% climb for the Nikkei this year is a major turnaround from the
depths reached back in April 2003, when the index sank to a 20-year
low of 7,607.88. As recently as mid-June, the index traded around
11,500 points, which is a good indication of how far it's come in a
short space of time. Corporate profitability is at the best level
since 1973. And with interest rates still at zero, dividend-paying
investments and particularly real-estate investment trusts (REITs)
are proving attractive. Companies that should also record healthy
profits with a sustained Japanese resurgence are the top three
automakers - Toyota, Honda and Nissan, which are already faring
well both domestically and globally. With Detroit's downturn, the
future looks bright for some time. Other savvy investments might
come from the financial sector, as interest rates rise and lending
picks up speed. Read more analysis from the 247Profits Group every
