In March, FCA sales in Europe were up 18.2% year-over-year,
significantly above the 10.9% average increase for the industry.
Market share was 50 basis points higher at 6.8%. All Group brands
posted increases, with sales up 45.7% for Alfa Romeo, 17.1% for
Fiat, 15.2% for Lancia and 8.5% for Jeep. The Fiat 500 and Fiat
Panda continued as the two best selling cars in the European A
segment (with a combined share of 30.4% for the year-to-date) and
the Fiat 500L led its segment with a 20.1% share. The Jeep Renegade
(sales up 19.2%) and Fiat 500X remained among the leaders in the
Small SUV segment, while the Fiat Tipo, Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa
Romeo Stelvio continued to post gains.
In March, FCA
posted another strong monthly sales performance in Europe
(EU28+EFTA), once again outperforming the industry average. Group
sales were up 18.2% (+10.9% for the industry) to nearly 131,000
vehicles. Market share was 50 basis points higher at
6.8%.
For the three months year-to-date, FCA sold more than 303,000
vehicles, representing a year-over-year increase of 14.6% versus
8.2% for the industry. Market share for the period was up 40 basis
points to 7.1%.
By major market, FCA's March sales were up 21.6% in Italy (+18.2%
for the industry), 17.5% in France (+7.1% for the industry), 18.6%
in Spain (+12.7% for the industry) and 36.8% in Germany (+11.4% for
the industry).
Fiat brand
posted European sales of nearly 100,300 vehicles for the month,
representing a 17.1% year-over-year increase. Market share was 30
basis points higher at 5.2%.
Year-to-date, brand sales were up 14.6% to nearly 230,000 vehicles,
with market share 30 basis points higher at 5.4%.
By major market, the brand's March sales were up 19.8% in Italy,
37.1% in Germany, 17.6% in France and 15.1% in Spain.
Fiat remained leader in the European A segment with the 500 and
Panda holding a combined 30.4% share for the first three months of
the year. With 26,100 units sold in March and more than 55,100 for
the year-to-date (+3.9% year-over-year), the 500 was the best
selling model in its segment. The Panda ranked just behind the 500,
with March sales up 8.3% over the prior year to 22,500 units. The
500L continued as leader in the Small MPV segment with a 20.1%
share and more than 7,400 units sold. The 500X, one of the most
popular models in its segment, posted another positive monthly
performance and the Tipo also continued its upward momentum.
Lancia/Chrysler also outperformed the industry, with
sales up 15.2% to more than 8,400 units and share stable at
0.4%.
For the year-to-date, brand sales were up 8.1% to more than 21,500
units with share stable at 0.5%.
The brand posted a particularly positive result in Italy in March
with sales up 16.4% year-over-year and market share at
3.7%.
The ever-popular Lancia Ypsilon remained segment leader in Italy
with March sales up 15.4%.
Alfa Romeo
posted a very strong monthly performance with sales up 45.7% to
9,200 vehicles driven by rapid growth for both the Giulia and the
Stelvio. Market share was 10 basis points higher at 0.5%.
Year-to-date, sales were up 34.6% to 21,500 vehicles with market
share at 0.5% (+10 bps).
By major market, sales were up 46.1% in Italy, 87.7% in Germany,
34.0% in France, 8.8% in the UK and 67.8% in Spain.
Jeep posted
an 8.5% increase in March sales in Europe, with more than 11,600
vehicles sold. Market share was in line with the prior year at
0.6%.
Year-to-date, brand sales totaled more than 27,100 units (+2.4%)
and share was 0.6%.
For March, brand sales were up 26.3% in Italy, 27.2% in Germany,
4.5% in France, 18.6% in the UK and 35.7% in Spain.
The Jeep Renegade, consistently one of the best-sellers in its
segment, posted another strong monthly performance with sales up
19.2% year-over-year.
For Maserati,
the Group's luxury brand, European sales totaled 1,364 vehicles in
March and 3,091 for the year-to-date.
