Loudeye Teams With Dell, StorageTek and Foundry Networks to Deploy
Next Generation Digital Media Infrastructure Loudeye's Media
Operations Center Now Capable of Processing 4.2 Million Digital
Music Tracks a Week Through Migration to High Performance Online
Digital Media System SEATTLE, April 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Loudeye Corp. , the worldwide leader in business-to-business
digital media solutions, today announced it teamed with industry
leaders such as Dell, StorageTek and Foundry Networks to advance
its world renowned media operations center through the deployment
of next generation digital media infrastructure. The combination of
new technology and system advancements to Loudeye's $70 million
media operations center significantly expands the speed,
efficiency, volume and capacity of Loudeye's digital media
processing, management and distribution services. Through the new
infrastructure assets and capabilities, Loudeye is migrating its
entire archive of digital music to an optimized online system using
Fibre Channel disk and Gigabit Ethernet. The migration to a true
"online" environment provides near instant and automated processing
of digital media files in any format or size. As a result,
Loudeye's production capacity will grow from a current rate of
490,000 digital music files a week to approximately 4.2 million
files a week, or 25,000 an hour. Loudeye is integrating PowerEdge
servers to function as encoders, increasing digital media
processing capabilities by more than 50%. Additionally, Loudeye is
deploying disk and controllers from StorageTek(R), adding more than
200 terabytes of storage, enabling real-time encoding, and pushing
Loudeye's total aggregate storage capacity to nearly one thousand
terabytes, or one petabyte. Foundry Networks provided the advanced
network switch infrastructure for supporting the underlying
architecture and network flow. "Loudeye's deployment of our storage
management systems significantly reduces the complexity and
administrative demands of operating a high volume digital media
center," said Michael McLay, StorageTek's vice president of sales
and service. "We worked closely with Loudeye to evaluate the
specific technical demands of migrating their music archive online
and bolstering their processing capabilities. StorageTek's industry
premium D280 disk system, combined with additional, high
performance servers and controllers, provides a highly effective
solution for creating, managing and processing hundreds of millions
of digital media files in an online environment." Loudeye's media
operations center is one of the most sophisticated digital media
facilities in the industry and houses the world's largest archive
of digital music stored in original, uncompressed .WAV format.
Loudeye's digital music archive, currently housing 4.5 million full
song digital media tracks with associated metadata and cover art,
is rapidly growing through the addition of independent label
content from around the world as a result of the recently announced
Loudeye IndieSource program. "To date we've delivered tens of
millions of digital media files and delivered more than a billion
music clips to our customers around the world," said John Martin,
Loudeye's executive vice president of technology and development.
"As companies continue to enter the market and existing companies
enhance their digital media presence, access to the latest digital
media technologies and systems is critical to their success. These
advancements to our media operations center move our already
industry leading infrastructure to the next level, ready to support
high volume digital media projects, emerging business models and
high bandwidth requirements associated with other media including
computer games, software and digital video." About Loudeye Corp.
