Enerkem partners with the Université de Sherbrooke to create a new
leadership program
MONTREAL, Oct. 17, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Enerkem Inc.
(www.enerkem.com), a waste-to-biofuels and chemicals company, today
announced that it is partnering with the Université de
Sherbrooke to create a
leadership and skills development program designed to train
Enerkem's employees and develop its future leaders.
"At the heart of this leadership program, which we developed
with the Université de Sherbrooke, are Enerkem's deeply-rooted
core values: excellence and innovation", said Philippe Burton, Vice President, Human
Resources. "Our employees are our best ambassadors. We
created the Enerkem Academy to offer them a comprehensive
professional development program where we consolidate our entire
training, knowledge sharing and succession development component,
as well as this leadership program."
Tomorrow, Enerkem Academy's inaugural cohort will participate in
the first of a series of eight seminars, to be offered
alternatively at the University's two campuses in Sherbrooke and Longueuil.
The leadership training program was developed with the Centre
universitaire de formation continue of the Université de
Sherbrooke (CUFC). The
mandate of this continuing education centre is to give companies
access to all of the University's expertise. CUFC is
recognized for its expertise in the development of customized
training and works with teams of specialists in content and
pedagogical approaches.
"This training solution, adapted to Enerkem's business reality,
is the result of a close collaboration with the company's
managers", explained Isabel
Dunnigan, Director of Development of the CUFC. "We are
enthusiastic to work with this leader of Québec's green economy,
which was founded in Sherbrooke
and with whom we have a privileged relationship."
Over the years, Enerkem and the Université de Sherbrooke have developed close ties,
which are being reaffirmed today. Esteban Chornet, Enerkem's
Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, is also a Professor
Emeritus of the Faculty of Engineering and taught at the
Université de Sherbrooke
from 1970 to 2007.
About Enerkem
Enerkem develops biofuels and chemicals from waste. With its
proprietary thermochemical technology, Enerkem converts abundantly
available municipal solid waste (mixed textiles, plastics, fibers,
wood and other non-recyclable waste materials) into chemical-grade
syngas, and then methanol, ethanol and other chemical intermediates
that form everyday products. By using waste instead of fossil
fuels, Enerkem addresses the growing demand for renewable energy
sources and chemicals, while reducing landfill volumes and
greenhouse gas emissions. Headquartered in Montreal, Canada, the company currently
operates both a pilot and a demonstration facility in Québec, has
its first waste-to-biofuels full-scale commercial plant under
construction in Edmonton, Alberta,
and is developing similar facilities in the U.S. and Canada that will convert municipal solid waste
into biofuels and chemicals. www.enerkem.com
