SAS Offers Maximum Flexibility to Build Scalable Video Systems
MILPITAS, Calif., April 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Maxtor
Corporation (NYSE:MXO) announced today its Serial Attached SCSI
(SAS) hard drives will be featured in a demonstration at the AIC
booth (#SL5206) at NAB2006, April 22 - 27, 2006 in Las Vegas. AIC
is an industry leading designer and manufacturer of rack-mount
server and data storage enclosure solutions. The demonstration will
highlight AIC's 3U 16-bay 3.5-inch RMC3E-SA server populated with
12 Maxtor(R) Atlas(R) 15K II SAS drives. As the follow-on to the
widely deployed parallel SCSI interface, SAS brings a number of
benefits to the broadcasting and video industry. The advantages of
the new SAS interface for video systems range from fast data
transfer rates, large storage capacity to maximum flexibility. The
SAS architecture offers the flexibility to build scalable video
systems that can serve as universal building blocks for
constructing a digital studio's storage infrastructure. "One of the
significant advantages of the SAS architecture is that it allows
the mixing and matching of both SAS and Serial ATA (SATA) hard
drives," said Brendan Collins, vice president of enterprise
marketing at Maxtor. "This provides the flexibility for video
professionals to configure systems to best suit their requirements.
Systems for I/O-intensive video editing and video on demand
applications can be populated with high-performance 10K or 15K SAS
drives. For maximum storage capacity, video professionals can
install high-capacity SATA drives." "The video broadcasting
industry addresses high performance and high availability as core
requirements for its storage systems and network architecture, to
fulfill its high definition quality, multi-I/O access, and
on-demand digital content delivery," said Gene Lee, vice president,
at AIC. "The high density RMC2E-SA, packaged with Maxtor's Atlas
15K II high performance enterprise class SAS drives, provides a
streamlined solution to the broadcasting industry." Maxtor's family
of enterprise hard drives includes the Atlas 15K and 10K RPM SAS
drives with capacities up to 300GB and the MaXLine(R) 7,200 RPM
enterprise SATA drives with capacities up to 500GB. Maxtor Atlas
SAS and MaXLine SATA drives are currently shipping and available at
Maxtor distributors worldwide. For further information on Advanced
