Pounds and Pulsates LAS VEGAS, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- (CES Booth #
11400) -- Sony today unveiled a line of Xplod(R) speakers,
subwoofers and amplifiers that is sure to turn heads -- and ears --
on the streets and at car shows this year. With eight speakers,
three subwoofers and three amplifiers, the 2006 Xplod audio lineup
includes a wide range of products, so in-car music buffs can choose
components that best fit their audio system and budget. (Photo:

line has every system need covered, from our Specialty Series for
elite car audio customization shops to factory replacement speakers
for weekend installers," said Andrew Sivori, general manager for
mobile electronics at Sony Electronics. "Our new components not
only look great, but will also simplify vehicle installations."
Amplifiers Sony has overhauled its amplifiers for 2006, improving
both the units' performance and aesthetics. The three new Xplod
amplifiers -- the XM-1252GTR, XM-2002GTR and XM-D9001GTR models --
benefit from new designs with inverted heat sinks and hidden
terminal connections. The amplifiers also feature a translucent
window with blue LED backlighting for a customized look. To
simplify integration with factory equipment, all three amplifiers
feature high-level input signal sensing and do not require a remote
turn-on lead. A center pin support is added to stabilize the
amplifiers' chassis and minimize vibrations. The new amplifiers
will range in price from about $150 to $300 and start shipping
later this month. Sony will also continue to ship its line of Xplod
Specialty Series amplifiers. The series, which made its debut last
year, consists of four amplifiers featuring Sony's "stream design,"
with a high-end appearance, outstanding performance and an extended
warranty. All amplifiers in the Specialty Series have an identical
footprint, so custom installers can maintain a uniform look when
building a system. All Sony Xplod amplifiers are CEA 2006
compliant. Subwoofers Sony will also offer three new Xplod
subwoofers this month, with prices ranging from about $130 to about
$240 per pair. The metallic-black finished Xplod subwoofers will
retain 4-ohm voice coils and Sony's five-sided injected
polypropylene cone design. Sony will continue to offer its aluminum
P5 Xplod subwoofer series, encompassing the XS-LD105P5 10-inch and
XS-LD125P5 12-inch models. With a max power handling of 1,300 and
1,400 watts, respectively, the subwoofers feature a light weight
aluminum cone, paired with gold plated binding posts. They also
have dual 4-ohm voice coils for added flexibility in wiring
options. The aluminum P5 Xplod subwoofer series, available now,
ranges in price from $180 to $200. Speakers and Components In 2006,
Sony will debut five new Xplod A-Series speakers. These four-way
speakers offer Highly Oriented Polyolefine (HOP) woofers, balanced
drive/dome tweeters and a new design. The speakers are shipping
this month in the range of $50 to $90 per pair. Sony has a new
design for its Xplod HP-Series speakers. Three models -- the
XS-V690HP, XS-V680HP and XS-V160HP -- offer aluminum/film dome
tweeters for greater sound quality and stroke stabilizing rubber
surrounds to help minimize distortion even when the volume is
turned way up. The HP-Series speakers will ship this month for
around $100. The Xplod Specialty Series speakers and component
speaker sets will also continue to be offered in 2006. Additional
