Rocky Mountain Natural Gas 2006 Opens August 7 in Denver
June 08 2006 - 5:30PM
PR Newswire (US)
Two Great Meetings, One Great Event DENVER, June 8
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATURAL GAS 2006 will be
held August 7, 8 and 9 at the Colorado Convention Center in
downtown Denver. This event combines two important regional
meetings: the 18th annual Rocky Mountain Natural Gas Strategy
Conference and Investment Forum, presented by Colorado Oil &
Gas Association (COGA), and the Rocky Mountain Natural Gas Geology
& Resources Conference, presented by the Rocky Mountain
Association of Geologists and the Denver Geophysical Society. And,
new this year, IPAA (Independent Petroleum Association of America)
and COGA join together to host Rocky Mountain Private Capital, a
half-day offering that spotlights the importance of private capital
to the development of natural gas in the Rockies. Following is the
latest information for the event, including preliminary schedules.
Details, updates and registration are at http://www.coga.org/ and

Conference & Investment Forum About the Conference Long
recognized as the premier Rocky Mountain event that showcases
natural gas issues, this year's Rocky Mountain Natural Gas Strategy
Conference & Investment Forum focuses on critical issues.
Strategy Conference and Investment Forum sessions complement each
other and are included in a single registration. This Year's Theme
Energy, Risk and Change -- Today's Best U.S. Natural Gas Play:
Rocky Mountain Basins Draft oxen, wood fires and whale oil. Coal
steam engines and canvas sails. Windmills, petroleum, natural gas,
solar panels, nuclear fission and fusion. Energy technology is
ever-evolving. Now more than ever, necessity seeks invention. But
the risks we face in employing and balancing new and mature energy
technologies have created a double-edged sword -- too much
confidence and spin on one side, too much skepticism and
demagoguery on the other. Against the backdrop of unprecedented
global interdependence and technological complexity, society is
making macro-risk choices with little understanding of the
consequences. The risks are growing harder to judge, much less
quantify. While at the same time, the consequences of
miscalculation are increasingly serious, interlocking and far
ranging. Put another way, what's the ratio of cars in China or
hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico to drilling rigs in the Rockies?
High-profile speakers will address the ideas and issues surrounding
these concepts. The Investment Forum Executives from key Rocky
Mountain companies will highlight the substantial opportunities and
exciting plays that distinguish our region. The distinctive
executive-panel structure features industry leaders whose companies
are making an unprecedented, long-term commitment of capital and
talent focused on exploring and developing the Rockies. A number of
the executive-panel companies will also offer scheduled break-out
sessions, providing greater detail on corporate accomplishments,
projects and/or planning. "Companies to Watch," both private and
public, will be featured at a special Wednesday morning breakfast.

Exhibit Hall 8:30 - 10:00 Mega-Session: Plenary One Overestimating
Risk in Energy Decisions: Overcoming Skepticism & Demagoguery
Making the smoothest transition possible to a new energy future
means managing risk effectively. A better understanding of the
following will help us do that: The extensive North American
hydrocarbon resource base, the evolution of oil and gas wildcatting
(particularly in the Rockies) and how risk and new technology
influence decisions, and the current state of the dynamic natural
gas resource play in the Rockies -- now the most significant in the
U.S. 10:10-11:30 Strategy Conference Session Political Risks from
Geopolitical and Domestic Perspectives Venezuela, Iran, Russia,
China, India -- natural gas, oil and nuclear power flow among some
of the most geopolitically sensitive nations. We enhance U.S.
security when we produce energy without dependence on tinder-box
regions. Conversely, we diminish that security when we limit
drilling by political decisions often based more on rhetoric than
fact. In this new era of risk and high prices, decisions made by
elected officials and their appointees increasingly impact the U.S.
production and transmission of energy. This panel will examine the
effects of politics on the risks inherent in these situations.
11:30-11:55 Exhibit Hall Focus Noon - 1:20 Mega-Session: Keynote
Luncheon 1:30 - 2:45 Strategy Conference Session Risk in
Implementing Complex New Technologies to Achieve Environmental
Priorities New technology is helping bring heat, light and mobility
to the world, but there are often unintended results when new
technology is commercially deployed on a large scale. LNG poses
plant-siting difficulties and market risks. What are the realistic
capabilities of hydrogen, wind, solar and biofuels to satisfy
market demand, and what surprising difficulties are these
technologies experiencing as they move into the commercial arena.
The market responds to demands for environmentally sound E&P
technologies, but anti-drilling publicity overshadows the progress.

Confronting Spin & Misplaced Confidence We take for granted
secure, affordable and available energy. This session will examine:
The potential consequences of that misplaced confidence, the risks
generated when we substitute governments for markets in selecting
and pricing energy supplies, the realistic capabilities of emerging
alternative energy, and the sustainability of fossil fuels. 8:30 -

fields. Experts from key Rockies' pipeline organizations will talk
about their plans. 2:45 - 4:00 3rd Investment Forum Executive Panel
