GREENVILLE, S.C., Nov. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- KEMET's Ceramic
Capacitor Team was recently honored during an awards dinner
ceremony at the Carolina First Center in Greenville with the 2007
InnoVision Technology Award in the Technology Development category.
The award was accepted on behalf of KEMET by Jim Magee, Senior
Engineer, Ceramic Business Group. The winning project from the
Ceramic Business Group involved the development of a new,
proprietary material system that enables the manufacture of
environmentally friendly, high-performance, and low-cost multilayer
ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). The first generation of the MLCC
project resulted in a lead- and cadmium-free Class 1 multilayer
ceramic capacitor. KEMET realized the great potential of this newly
invented material set and associated processing technology, and
after optimization of all the materials and processes, released a
second generation of the MLCCs with up to 15 times higher
capacitance. These second-generation capacitors have the
highest-ever volumetric efficiency and represent the state of the
art in Class 1 MLCCs. The technology is covered in one US patent,
one published US patent application, and one unpublished US patent
application and has led to a generation of higher-reliability
ceramic capacitors that are helping the electronics industry push
the frontiers of miniaturization and high performance, while still
being environmentally friendly. Two of the three finalists in the
Technology Development category were KEMET teams. The finalist
project from the Tantalum Business Group detailed the successful
development of a first-to-market tantalum capacitor that enables
the latest generation of computers to reach their full potential in
size and speed -- the KO-CAP T520 330 microfarad 2.5V 6 milliohm
tantalum organic polymer capacitor. "KEMET is honored to receive
this prestigious award, and it is extremely gratifying for the
company. Over the last few years we have intensified our focus on
becoming a leader in technology," said Dr. Philip Lessner, KEMET
Chief Technology Officer. "Receiving this award is confirmation
that we are making significant advancements on this goal. I'm proud
of the work our team does on a daily basis and look forward to more
awards and patents from them in the future." KEMET Corporation
applies world-class service and quality to deliver
industry-leading, high-performance capacitance solutions to its
customers around the world. KEMET offers the world's most complete
line of surface-mount and through-hole capacitor technologies
across tantalum, ceramic, aluminum (organic and electrolytic), film
and paper dielectrics. KEMET's common stock is listed on The New
York Stock Exchange under the symbol KEM. Additional information
