RMC GROUP APPOINTS NEW GROUP CHIEF EXECUTIVE
The Board of RMC Group p.l.c. announces that it has appointed David Munro, age
48, as its new Group Chief Executive; he will take up his appointment on 19
January 2004. RMC's current Group Chief Executive, Stuart Walker, will retire
from the Group on 28 January 2004 when he reaches the age of 60 - the retirement
age for Executive Directors. He will remain as an adviser to the Board until the
Group's AGM in April 2004.
David Munro is a mining engineer by background and is currently the Chief
Development Officer of BHP Billiton and a member of the Executive Committee.
Prior to Billiton's merger with BHP, David Munro was the main Board Director
responsible for Billiton's global aluminium and base metals businesses.
Stuart Walker joined RMC in 1971 and was appointed to the Board in 1993. He was
appointed Deputy Group Chief Executive in January 1998 and Group Chief Executive
in June 2000.
Sir John Parker, RMC's Chairman, said:
"We are very pleased to have attracted someone of David Munro's calibre and we
are looking forward to working with him to achieve RMC's strategic objectives.
He has an outstanding track record of leading and building value in major
industrial companies as well as extensive international operational and trading
experience.
"Stuart has been Group Chief Executive at a critical time in RMC's development
and has overseen an extensive restructuring programme since he took up his post
in 2000. A great deal has been achieved to date and as a result the Group is
well positioned for the future. On behalf of my colleagues, I would like to
express the Board's gratitude for the important contribution Stuart has made to
the Group and we wish him well in his retirement".
