Smash Minerals Corp.: Drill Program Commences on Whiskey Property
August 24 2011 - 8:30AM
Marketwired
Smash Minerals Corp. (TSX VENTURE: SSH) (the "Company" or "Smash")
announces that a diamond drilling program has commenced to test
targets identified by an exploration program on its 100 percent
owned Whiskey Gold Property (the "Property"), located in the White
Gold District of west-central Yukon Territory, Canada. The Property
occupies 4,177 claims covering an area of 846 square kilometres
covering the placer gold-rich Black Hills and Barker creeks.
Since last public reporting, August 17, 2011, an additional
1,992 assays have been received from soil, rock grab, and channel
samples. Year to date, a total of 11,179 assays have been
received.
The following is a summary of these results from the initial
targeted zones on the Property.
Bowmore Zone
Drilling is underway at the Bowmore Prospect targeting a
structural intersection with epithermal-style quartz veins cutting
meta-gabbro host-rock coincident with a 1,300 metre
northwest-trending gold-in-soil anomaly. Soil values at Bowmore
range from detection limit to 1.53 g/t Au, including 0.10, 0.17 and
0.26 g/t Au, in addition to values previously reported.
Bushmills Zone
As reported in the August 11, 2011 news release, trenching at
the Bushmills Zone has uncovered a significant
sercite-quartz-pyrite alteration zone at the intersection of an
east-west fault and a north-northwest trending structural fabric
within felsic orthogneiss. Anomalous gold values in grab rock
samples up to 1.3 g/t and a distinct pathfinder element anomaly
(silver, lead, molybdenum, bismuth, and tellurium) in both soil and
rock define this zone.
Ben Nevis Zone
The newly defined Ben Nevis zone is a north-trending structural
corridor of brecciated quartz veins and sericitically altered
felsic orthogneiss. Gold mineralization has been identified from
soil assays ranging from detection limit to 0.15 g/t Au with 1.40
g/t Ag. Channel sampling from trenches have returned encouraging
results ranging from detection limit to 0.29 g/t Au. Grab samples
of brecciated quartz veins from within this zone return values from
detection limit to 3.03 g/t Au.
Glen Breton Zone
The Glen Breton zone, two kilometres north along strike of the
Bowmore prospect, is characterized by a north-trending structural
lineament containing brecciated quartz veins, high-density
stockwork quartz veining, and strong sericite alteration of felsic
orthogneiss. Disseminated pyrite and secondary copper
mineralization, is focused in brecciated quartz veins and altered
wall rock. Rock samples from the area returned gold values ranging
from detection limit to 3.19 g/t Au. Further soil, rock grab, and
trench channel assay results are pending.
Highland Park Zone
The Highland Park zone occurs in the same style of altered and
brecciated felsic orthogneiss and quartz veining characteristic of
both, Bushmills and Ben Nevis zones. Highly anomalous mercury and
silver with minor gold identified in soil from Highland Park may
indicate high level mineralization in a vertically zoned system
located in the northeast portion of Smash Minerals' claims.
Drilling at Highland Park is aimed to intercept gold mineralization
at depth. The Highland Park, Glen Breton, and Ben Nevis zones are
clearly defined as intersecting northwest- and east-west-trending
magnetic lows interpreted as major structures that are coincident
with brecciated quartz veining and siliceous alteration mantled by
intense sericite-limonite alteration within felsic gneiss
host-rock.
Drilling is expected to continue into late September testing
several targets. Bowmore, Bushmills, Ben Nevis, Glen Breton, and
Highland Park are ranked on present data but may be reprioritised
following receipt of additional assay results.
The exploration program is being directed by Adrian Fleming, CEO
and a director of Smash and formerly CEO of Underworld Resources
(now Kinross Gold Corp.). Overall technical guidance for the
program including specialist expertise in geology, geochemistry,
and geophysics is being provided by Revelation Geoscience. A
significant proportion of Smash's technical team formerly worked
for Underworld Resources and was responsible for the first
discovery in the White Gold District, Yukon, being the Golden
Saddle discovery in 2008.
A comprehensive QA/QC program is in place to monitor precision
and accuracy of the assay results. All soil and rock samples are
submitted with certified reference materials. Soil sample
duplicates are routinely collected, and pulp duplicates are
obtained for both soil and rock samples. Soil samples are analyzed
by Acme Analytical Laboratories Ltd. using an aqua regia digestion
and a 15 g charge for ridge and spur samples and a 30 g charge for
grid samples. Rock samples are analyzed by SGS Minerals Services.
Gold analyses are by fire assay using a 50 g charge and an atomic
absorption spectrometry finish. Gold assays greater than 3 g/t are
routinely re-assayed using a gravimetric finish to confirm initial
atomic absorption results. Both Acme and SGS laboratories are ISO
9001 accredited.
Phil Smerchanski, P.Geo., Principal Consultant - Geology,
Revelation Geoscience Ltd., is a Qualified Person and has reviewed
