Anglo American Platinum Ltd. said Thursday that it has named Natascha Viljoen, who currently heads its processing operations, as the company's next chief executive, replacing Chris Griffith.

The South Africa-based platinum miner, which is majority owned by Anglo American PLC, said Ms. Viljoen's appointment is effective from April 16.

The company said earlier this week that Mr. Griffith planned to step down in April after more than seven years and that it expected to appoint an internal candidate as his successor.
