Evolution Solar Corp. (Pink Sheets: EVSO) announced today that
it will send two cutting-edge solar panels to North Carolina as
part of the company’s efforts to enhance the green technology
curriculum at Barber-Scotia College’s energy institute.
Last week, Evolution Solar signed a partnering agreement
with GENNX Technologies, Inc. and Barber-Scotia College (BSC) to
help improve GENNX-Tech’s Green IT and Technology Program at the
school. Plans center on the creation of a solar demonstration
project planned for the BSC campus in Concord, N.C. BSC students
will gain valuable hands-on training by helping to install an array
of high-efficiency solar panels designed to help reduce energy
costs on the campus.
Students will be able to begin familiarizing themselves with
leading-edge photovoltaic technology when Evolution Solar ships two
AmpleSun thin-film PV panels to BSC this week.
“Barber-Scotia students will be assisting with the construction
and installation of this solar demonstration project, and these
advanced AmpleSun panels will prove to be invaluable teaching
tools,” said Robert Hines, President of Evolution Solar. “We jumped
at the chance to participate in this project because it presents
the perfect opportunity to introduce the next generation of
green-energy professionals to the next generation of photovoltaic
solar technology.”
According to the agreement announced last week, Evolution Solar
will supply the solar panels and accessory equipment — including
rack-mount system, power inverter, control box and wiring
mechanisms — necessary for the training installation. GENNX
technicians, BSC students and interns will assist with the
demonstration’s construction and completion.
“GENNX Technologies is excited about the partnership with
Evolution Solar,” said GENNX-Tech President Karen Soares. “We
believe that strategic alignments such as this will serve as a
guided force for participants engaging in and seeking
energy-related careers. Upon completion of our Solar Energy and
other “Green” courses, students will have the skills and experience
necessary to become certified in their chosen green
disciplines.”
BSC is providing the real estate for the demo project in order
to enhance the school’s solar curriculum and market the
Barber-Scotia College Energy Institute. The college plans to seek a
net metering agreement with its local energy provider in hopes of
one day selling energy produced by the solar installation back to
the power grid.
“Barber-Scotia College shares in GENNX Technologies’ excitement
in partnership with Evolution Solar,” Soares said. “As a committed
third partner, the college will strive to uphold the high standards
of excellence and service provided in this partnership, helping to
meet the ever changing challenges of the global economy of the 21st
century.”
Hines said that EVSO anticipates that solar demonstrations such
as the BSC project should help Evolution Solar acquire new business
in a sector that is growing to compete in the energy industry,
which includes First Solar (NASDAQ: FSLR), Penn West Energy (NYSE:
PWE), Occidental Petroleum (NYSE: OXY) and Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:
XLNX).
