May 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MicroPlanet, (MP:TSXV &
MCTYF:OTC) a smart grid, energy conservation company, announced
today the deployment of MicroPlanet's smart grid technology at US
Marines Corps Base Hawaii at Kaneohe Bay, to save energy and extend
equipment life. The first MicroPlanet 3-Phase system at the US
Marines Corps Base is expected to be delivered in the third quarter
of 2009. A pilot program of MicroPlanet's system was conducted at
the K-Bays Lanes bowling center Marines Corps Base Hawaii at
Kaneohe Bay. "For a number of years the K-Bay Lanes building #1666
had very high maintenance costs due to power quality problems. Most
of the equipment in the facility is controlled by computers, like
the lighting systems, pin setters and scoring consoles," said Bruce
Lisanti CEO of MicroPlanet. "After MicroPlanet installed its
system, the bowling center reported a major decline in the number
of equipment failures in 2008 from the same period in 2007, as well
as substantially reduced electricity usage. By lowering maintenance
expenses and reducing energy consumption, the system we are
installing at K-Bay for the Marines is expected to have a payback
of less than 2 years." "As we move into an era with more renewable
energy when solar and wind generation are being added to the power
grid, these renewable sources do not always deliver power
consistently, which can lead to fluctuations on the grid and a
decrease in the quality and stability of power delivered to
customers", said Lisanti. "MicroPlanet's smart grid technology
improves power quality at the point of delivery and dynamically
raises or lowers and balances incoming voltage to optimal and
constant desired set point. MicroPlanet 3-Phase voltage management
systems are an important part of the new Smart Grid." Lisanti
continues, "Given the success of pilot program, the Marines Base's
facility manager and MicroPlanet are conducting a survey of the
entire US Marines Corps Base at Kaneohe Bay and are looking at
facilities in Guam, to potentially deploy MicroPlanet's voltage
management systems on many of these commercial and residential
buildings as a cost effective way to save energy, improve power
quality and reduce greenhouse emissions." About MicroPlanet
