Proxim Wireless Products Available to Operate in Newly-Available
5.2 GHz Spectrum
Proxim to Host Webinar to Discuss the New Spectrum May 13
SILICON VALLEY, CA--(Marketwired - May 12, 2014) - Proxim
Wireless Corporation (PINKSHEETS: PRXM), a global leader in outdoor
advanced wireless broadband systems, today announced that its
Tsunami® outdoor broadband wireless point-to-point and
point-to-multipoint products are ready to operate in the
newly-available 5.2 GHz spectrum. Proxim expects that the
availability of this new spectrum will be greatly beneficial to its
customers, especially its wireless Internet service provider
customers, and is pleased to have equipment ready to use that new
spectrum.
On May 1, 2014, the United States Federal Communications
Commission issued a rule making revisions to the existing rules
applicable to devices operating in the U-NII-1 band (5.15 - 5.25
GHz). Most significantly for Proxim's customers, that final
rule removed the indoor-only restriction that had applied to the
U-NII-1 band and increased the permitted power levels of devices
operating in that band. The significant portions of this new
rule will become effective on June 2, 2014.
As a result, effective June 2, 2014, Proxim's customers will
have an additional 100 MHz of new unlicensed spectrum that they can
use. Because this will be newly-available spectrum, there will
be less congestion and a resulting significantly reduced chance of
interference.
In anticipation of the availability of this new spectrum, Proxim
has been preparing its Tsunami products for operation in this band
for the past several months. The capabilities and
flexibilities of Proxim's proprietary Wireless Outdoor Routing
Protocol (WORP®) software were critical in enabling Proxim to have
products ready to operate in this new band. The strength of
Proxim's WORP software will also enable purchasers of recent
Tsunami products to obtain a software upgrade enabling the use of
even those previously-purchased products in this new band.
"Proxim is proud to be among the first companies to have
equipment available to operate in this new band," stated Mike
Foster, Proxim's Senior Vice President of Worldwide
Sales. "The availability of this new spectrum will be a
tremendous benefit for our customers as they seek to expand their
businesses. The power of Proxim's WORP software will give our
customers the flexibility of choosing a single hardware product
that is capable of operating in both this new, interference-free
band plus existing unlicensed bands. We look forward to
helping our customers take prompt advantage of this new band."
Webinar on May 13, 2014
Proxim will be hosting a webinar to discuss this new spectrum
and products operating in this spectrum on Tuesday, May 13, 2014
starting at 11:00 am PDT. Information about this webinar may
be found here.
