                     SUSPENSION OF SHARES AND WARRANTS 

                   THE BARING EMERGING EUROPE TRUST PLC


Further to the announcement by the Board of Directors, of The Baring Emerging
Europe Trust PLC (the "Company") of 6 December 2002, and in advance of its
extraordinary general meeting to be held on 17 December 2002 at which a
resolution will be proposed that the company be placed into voluntary
liquidation, the listing of and dealings in the following securities on the
London Stock Exchange have been suspended with effect from 7.30 a.m. today:

Ordinary shares of US$0.10 each with 'A' rights (ISIN GB0032352741) fully paid 

Ordinary shares of US$0.10 each with 'B' rights (ISIN GB0032352857) fully paid 

Warrants to subscribe for ordinary shares of US$0.10 each (ISTN GB0000872308)
