                       Notice of substantial shareholding


Archipelago Resources Plc ("the Company") has been informed on 8 May 2006 that
Jennison Natural Resources Fund, Inc. ("the Fund"), on behalf of itself and its
ultimate parent, Prudential Financial, Inc., pursuant to sections 198-210 of the
Companies Act 1985, has purchased 3,200,000 ordinary shares in a private
placement. As of 18 May 2006 Prudential Financial, Inc. (through attribution of
ownership of the Fund) holds a notifiable interest in the Company of 6.367%
representing 8,000,000 ordinary shares out of an issued share capital of
125,648,373 ordinary shares.
