                     INCO LIMITED FILES FOR PUBLIC OFFERING

                         OF DEBT SECURITIES IN THE U.S.



Toronto, May 3, 2002 - Inco Limited announced today that it has filed for an
underwritten public offering in the United States of U.S. $300 million aggregate
principal amount of its notes due 2012 (the "Notes").  The offer and sale of the
Notes is being made pursuant to the Multijurisdictional Disclosure System in the
United States, and is subject to regulatory approvals and certain conditions to
be set forth in an underwriting agreement covering this offering to be entered
into with Merrill Lynch & Co., as book-running manager, and BMO Nesbitt Burns,
RBC Capital Markets and Scotia Capital, as co-managers.  The net proceeds from
this offering of Notes, currently estimated at approximately U.S. $297 million
based upon expected commissions and other expenses, will be used to finance
certain capital expenditures relating to the Company's existing operations and
for general corporate purposes, including capital expenditures for its
development projects.



A registration statement relating to the Notes has been filed with the U.S.
Securities and Exchange Commission but has not yet become effective.  These
Notes may not be sold, nor may offers to buy be accepted, prior to the time the
registration statement becomes effective.  This communication shall not
constitute an offer to sell or the solicitation of an offer to buy, nor shall
there be any sale of, the Notes in any state in the United States in which such
offer, solicitation or sale would be unlawful prior to registration or
qualification under the securities laws of such state.
