               Appointment of Richard Longes as Director


Brierley Investments Limited Executive Chairman, Sir Roger Douglas, today
announced the appointment of Richard Longes as a Non-Executive Director.

Mr Longes (53), an Australian resident, is Chairman of General Property Trust,
Australian Water Services Pty Ltd and Darling Park Property Trust and a Director
of Lend Lease Corporation Ltd, Hoyts Cinema Ltd and Lyonnaise Asia Water Ltd.
He is also Principal of Wentworth Associates Pty Limited, a specialist financial
advisory and private equity investment firm.

Between 1993 and 1996 Mr Longes was an Executive Director of Lend Lease Group
where he was responsible for that company's Capital Services division.

He was a solicitor at law firm Freehill Hollingdate & Page between 1971 and 1988
(partner from 1974) and Chief Executive of publicly listed development and
venture capital group NPL Limited between 1987 and 1988.

Sir Roger Douglas said, "We are delighted to have attracted a person of Richard
Longes' ability to join the BIL Board.  Richard is a well respected Australian
business leader with a wealth of legal and financial experience and we look
forward to the contribution he will make to BIL's future direction."

Together with Peter Dodd's appointment last month as a Non-Executive Director,
BIL had now achieved its objective of improving the Board's experience in the
Australian market, Sir Roger said.
