    Appointment of Non-Executive Director

    Globe Speciality Metals, Inc. (AIM:GLBM.L) ("Globe" or the "Company") is pleased to announce the appointment of Franklin Leo Lavin, aged
50, as a non-executive director to the Board effective 29 September 2008.  Mr. Lavin has deep private and public sector experience, with his
most recent government position being Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade. In that position, Mr. Lavin headed the
International Trade Administration for the United States Department of Commerce from 2005 until 2007. Prior to that, Mr. Lavin served as the
United States Ambassador to the Republic of Singapore from 2001 to 2005. Before and after his government service, Mr. Lavin has worked in
private finance and is currently based in Hong Kong.

    Mr. Lavin holds or has held the following directorships, and is or was a member of the following partnerships during the past five
years:
