Paul G. Kirk Jr. resigned from Hartford Financial Services Group
Inc.'s (HIG) board, his second resignation this week, following his
appointment to fill the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the death
of Edward Kennedy.
Kirk, a longtime Democratic Party insider and confidant of the
Kennedy family, on Tuesday resigned from his director post at Cedar
Shopping Centers Inc. (CDR). Kirk had been a director with Cedar
since 2005.
On Thursday, Hartford said Kirk had resigned from its board
effective Sunday. The company made the announcement through a U.S.
Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
A spokeswoman from Hartford wasn't immediately available for
further comment.
Kirk said he will hold the office until the winner of a special
election on Jan. 19 takes office. He said he won't be a candidate
in that election.
