NORD ANGLIA AWARDED EAST LEEDS CITY ACADEMY CONTRACT
The training and education company Nord Anglia Education PLC ("Nord Anglia"), in
partnership with claruspcm, has won the contract to manage the implementation
and establishment phase of the David Young Community Academy on behalf of Leeds
Academy Trust.
Part of the DfES' City Academies programme, the contract, worth up to #650k, has
been awarded by the Trust's members, the Academy's sponsors - the Intercity
Group of Companies and the Diocese of Ripon and Leeds.
The new Academy at Seacroft, Leeds - the first in the country to specialise in
the area of 'Design and the Built Environment' - is due to open in September
2006.
Nord Anglia will have overall responsibility for the contract and will work with
the Trust, the Governors and in due course the head teacher designate, to
oversee the implementation of the processes leading to the opening of the
Academy on time and in condition to fulfil its statutory responsibilities as a
school.
This will include: developing an educational plan to raise standards; designing
and implementing the procedures required to run an effective school;
implementing school improvement measures and initial staffing proposals; and
drawing up initial budget proposals for the day-to-day running of the City
Academy, once open.
claruspcm Limited, which specialises in the management of design and
construction solutions, will oversee the successful and timely completion of the
Academy.
"I am delighted that Nord Anglia has been selected to oversee the development of
the East Leeds City Academy - our first contract in the City Academies
Programme," said Nord Anglia's Director of Outsourcing Rosamund Marshall.
"The City Academies Programme is an exciting and innovative approach to raising
levels of attainment in our inner cities and we are very pleased to be involved,
especially with an Academy that will offer such an interesting and unique
specialism."
claruspcm Regional Manager Keith German added: "It is our hope to use this as a
live project on which the students of the new Academy can learn about all
aspects of design and construction, and inspire them towards contributing to the
future of the built environment "
