INDUSTRY FIRST: CHEWY SWEETS NO LONGER HAVE TO BE BAD FOR YOU
11 October 2010: Oxford Nutrascience announces the launch of CHEWYZ(TM) its
reduced sugar, high fibre, tasty, vitamin enriched soft chew. Chewyz will
initially be launched in Tesco Nutri Centre stores.
Each bag of Chewyz includes 100g of deliciously flavoured strawberry, orange and
blackcurrant chews. Every chew contains 50mg of Omega 3, vitamins A, C, D & E
and contain 35% fibre so are healthier than normal soft chews but they taste
just as good as ever.
At last there is a product that is not only better for you but it tastes great
too and using Ocean Nutrition's exclusively licensed MEG-3 , you can't even
taste the fish from the omega3. This makes Chewyz ideal treats for children as
parents can be comforted that their children are happy eating a sweet that is
better for them.
The launch of Chewyz provides further validation of Oxford Nutracience's
technology which enables functional ingredients such as vitamins and minerals to
be added without compromising taste, texture and stability. Using a unique blend
of non-digestible fibres to reduce the sugars and fat traditionally used to make
chews, Chewyz provide for improved organoleptic properties.
Initially Chewyz will be sold into the UK confectionery market via high street
and supermarket outlets and the first listing is with Tesco Nutri Centre stores.
Chewyz will eventually be rolled out into other key global confectionery and
healthcare markets and the Company intends to launch Chewyz in the US during
2011.
The launch of the chews follows the recent signing of the manufacturing
agreement on 21 May 2010 with Lamy Lutti, one of the largest confectionery
manufacturer's in Europe which produces 53,000 tonnes of confectionary products
a year and has a turnover of approximately EUR130 million.
Further chews are due to be brought to market during 2011. Oxford Nutrascience's
technology is available to potential licensing partners.
Nigel Theobald, Chief Executive, Oxford Nutrascience Group Plc commented:
"Healthier confectionery tends to mean sugar free confectionery but this all too
often means taste free confectionery. Driving down sugar levels without
compromising taste has always been the challenge facing confectionery product
manufacturers. Today's launch of Chewyz marks a major breakthrough: chewy sweets
can be better for you and taste great too!
"Improving performance and consumer experience are the DNA of our fibre based
technology. This extends to confectionery products where a strong niche exists
for tasty chews with reduced sugar levels and good levels of additional
vitamins. With the first listing in Tesco Nutri Centre stores, Oxford
Nutrascience has completed its first step towards exploiting this opportunity."
