Plasmon (LSE:PLM), the trusted source in archiving systems, today
announced that Health Management Associates, Inc. (NYSE: HMA), a
premier operator of acute care hospitals, selected Plasmon as its
archival storage provider and has plans to implement Plasmon
solutions across many of its 57 hospitals. HMA needed a storage
solution that would provide a secure, long-term solution to help
the business meet industry requirements, while maintaining a
reasonable cost of ownership. With the daily flow of patient images
and other critical data entering HMAs storage infrastructure,
capacity on its disk-based archiving storage systems were quickly
being filled and the DVD media for the disaster-recovery tier was
becoming burdensome to manage. Plasmon worked with HMA to determine
a solution that would meet performance, reliability, scalability,
cost, and longevity requirements. Improving our IT storage
productivity, while reducing the cost of managing critical data was
imperative to our growth strategy, said Jim Jordan, CIO and Senior
Vice President of Management Information Systems for HMA. Add to
this the need to make sure that we were meeting strict compliance
requirements for archiving medical data, and we needed a solution
that was more than just RAID disk. For anyone who is concerned
about the overall affordability, performance, and flexibility of
their archiving solution, I would strongly recommend exploring
Plasmons UDO Archive Appliance. HMA chose Plasmons UDO Archive
Appliance because it was specifically designed for long-term
retention of valuable digital assets. Plasmon could support the
growth of HMA over time, preventing HMA from having to purchase new
storage units regularly. Plasmons backward-read-compatible roadmap
and system expandability means fewer units and less maintenance
time, all adding up to dramatically lower maintenance costs. As a
business, we are focused on delivering archive solutions that
easily and cost-efficiently manage the growing archive demands of
businesses, said Steven Murphy, Chief Executive Officer, Plasmon.
We see medical and healthcare as markets that are in need of
alternative solutions that go beyond disk-only products. In
addition to the long-term retention benefits, Plasmons Archive
Appliance has less energy consumption for power and cooling helping
customers like HMA address environmental challenges while improving
their operating performance. Due to the easy integration of
Plasmons UDO Archive Appliance with email, imaging, content
management, and other applications, HMA was able to quickly deploy
the customized archival storage strategy that best fit its unique
needs. HMA has begun implementing Plasmon units and plans to expand
its use of the Plasmon technology and appliances to many of its 57
acute care hospitals in 15 states. About Health Management
