Kazakhtelecom Selects Lucent Technologies and Riverstone Networks
Solution for Converged Multiservice Network Network harnesses DSL
and Carrier Ethernet for next-generation business and residential
services ALMATY, Kazakhstan and MOSCOW, June 22
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) and
Riverstone Networks (OTC:RSTN) (BULLETIN BOARD: RSTN) today
announced that Kazakhtelecom, Kazakhstan national carrier, will
deploy their combined broadband ethernet solution to deliver data
business and residential services to customers in three cities in
Kazakhstan. Using the Lucent and Riverstone solution, Kazakhtelecom
can deliver DSL Internet access, and Ethernet-based virtual private
network (VPN) services to customers in Astana, Atyrau and Aktau.
This solution also can enable Kazakhtelecom to cost-effectively
introduce multiple next-generation services in the future using a
variety of DSL technologies. "With this project we begin fulfilling
our plan to introduce broadband access services to subscribers
throughout Kazakhstan. The solution developed by Lucent and
Riverstone not only meets our current demand but will let us easily
grow into full-scale next-generation network (NGN) infrastructure
to support various innovative services," said Kazakhtelecom
President Khairat Karibzhanov. "There is considerable demand in the
market for efficient, scalable and cost-effective solutions and we
work with our partners to meet these needs," said Dmitry Kamensky,
Lucent Technologies Russia and CIS, managing director. "The carrier
Ethernet network we are deploying with Riverstone in Kazakhstan can
carry multiple types of traffic and services reliably and with a
high quality of service. The combined solution supports
Kazakhtelecom's commitment to provide best-in-class broadband
access services to residential and business subscribers."
Consisting of Lucent Stinger(R) DSL access concentrators and
Riverstone RS 8000 and 3000 series platforms, the solution also
supports a variety of DSL network access technologies, including
ADSL2+ and SHDSL, to deploy future services more efficiently.
Lucent accredited business partner Alpina Technologies will supply
the equipment for the project. Lucent Worldwide Services (LWS) will
provide installation, technical support and maintenance services,
with overall systems integration into the existing Kazakhtelecom
network. In September 2004, Lucent and Riverstone announced their
global relationship to deliver integrated, end-to-end carrier
Ethernet solutions. The combination of Lucent's Ethernet over
optical, broadband access and data solutions and Riverstone's
MPLS-based Ethernet solutions allow service providers worldwide to
extend their existing infrastructures economically and build new,
more efficient ones. About Riverstone Riverstone Networks, Inc.
